1:1 Successes?

I'm looking into creating a school.  One piece of the school is creating a 1:1 environment for every student K-8.  I'm not sure what it will look like (laptops, netbooks, iPads, iPod Touches).  In the comments, please share your advice, stories, pitfalls, thoughts, criticisms, concerns and anything that will help in the planning process.
