Document Camera Tips

In my weekly Wednesday morning meeting, the mentor and a teacher were using the document camera. The camera is on a cart that has a black mat. When there is no paper under the camera, it picks up a solid black background. Then when you put a piece of traditional white paper with ink or pencil on it, it takes forever to focus. Going from a black background to a white background is a major challenge for the document camera.

Document Camera Tip #1

To make focusing easier for the document camera have a placeholder sheet that is white and has black writing on it. You could even have some of the students make pictures to put under the document camera and rotate them daily.

If students have to wait a couple of minutes for the camera to focus, they you will have a greater chance of losing the attention of the students.
